Year-End Reselling Wins: Lessons Learned

As we close out 2025, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and how to grow in the new year. Running a reselling business takes hustle, adaptability, and lessons learned along the way. Here’s my honest roundup of wins, flops, and insights that shaped The Kent Flipper this year.

Wins Worth Celebrating

Niche Focus

Zeroing in on DVDs, boxsets, retro games, and plush toys helped simplify sourcing. I knew what I was looking for, what sold fast, and how to price it. Niche knowledge = faster sales.

Listing Consistently

Listing 10 items a day created daily momentum. Even if I sourced nothing new that day, having a queue of drafts ready made sure the shop stayed active. eBay rewards consistency.

Content + Social Media

This year I went faceless on Instagram with the Kent Flipper brand. Sharing flips, packaging clips, and quick sourcing finds grew engagement and trust. Even without showing my face, I built a following of flippers and collectors.

Delegation

Getting Luke involved in listings and site updates helped massively. My daughter helped with photos. It showed me the power of team effort – even if it’s family.

Lessons from Mistakes

Stock Sitting Too Long

Some inventory sat for 90+ days untouched. I should’ve refreshed photos or bundled them sooner. Don’t be sentimental about stock – shift it and reinvest.

Manual Tracking

In the early months I tracked sales/profit in a clunky spreadsheet. Now I’ve moved to a Trello and spreadsheet system with automations. Massive time-saver.

Ignoring eBay Seller Tools

I waited too long to switch to a Business Plan. Now I have better analytics, lower fees, and more tools.

Tools I’ll Keep Using in 2026

  • eBay Business Plan dashboard
  • Canva for post templates
  • Buffer for scheduled content
  • Trello board for weekly task flow
  • Google Sheets for profit tracking

Key Metrics That Mattered

  • Sell-through rate: Knowing how quickly items sold helped guide what to buy more of
  • Average profit per item: My sweet spot was £12-£18 per item
  • Repeat buyers: Tracking who came back gave me insights into what buyers loved

My 2026 Pledge: Double Down on Systems

Everything runs smoother when the system is tight:

  • Photo days once a week
  • Listing drafts in batches
  • Automated thank-you emails
  • Weekly review + plan session

Final Reflection

This year proved I could run a profitable, growing business while staying true to my values and brand. It’s not about selling thousands of items – it’s about flipping smarter, not harder.

So whether you’re just starting or scaling, take time to reflect. Your best lessons are already in your listings.
